She is an experienced & inspirational tutor, aiming to help students make discoveries, loosen up in their approach, take creative risks, make connections between different specialisms & techniques, and develop their own style & creative voice.

We're really excited to welcome guitarist Ellie Kotzia back to the Green Lane Music Room on Saturday 13th April at 7.30.  Ellie will appear with pianist Wilfred Murray to play a great programme of baroque music for guitar and harpsichord (or in this case piano). Music by Scarlatti, Vivaldi, Rodrigo and Boccherini will amuse and delight us.

Please book now if you’d like seats - we have only a few left! CA Members, £12, others £15, full time students with paying adult, £5.
From [email protected] or phone 01892 664 534.

Hear Ellie in action here!

What on Earth is a Salmagundi?

This is a question we expect to hear repeatedly over the next few months! Originating as a dish of chopped meat, anchovies, eggs, onions and seasoning, the term has passed into common usage (well commonish, anyway) to mean a general mixture or miscellaneous collection. In any case, it's a great word, and - guess what - is alliterative with the name of our county, hence the title for our event on 15th June: "A Sussex Salmagundi". We've put together a brilliant cast including not only regular Crowborough Arts performers, but also some truly exceptional guests - and some big surprises! Our Salmagundi will include music, poetry, the retelling of local legends, the dramatisation of work by famous local authors, and much, much more. Reserve your tickets now, and tell all your friends and family: this is going to be an evening to remember!

It's a particularly murky day today, so cheer yourself up by finding out what's coming up from CA over the next few months. Our regular art workshops, book and play reading groups are lined up, plus some exciting music and talks. Well-known musician and lecturer Peter Medhurst visits us in May to talk about the relationship between music and painting - this will set out quickly, so get your tickets now! And this is all just for starters - more info will be going on the site in the near future, including a talk in October with acclaimed novelist and playwright Simon Brett.

We have just a few tickets left to hear Dean Caston speak about variety shows this coming Saturday. Dean, who speaks at NADFAS meetings and similar organisations, will illustrate his talk with sound clips and slides, and is an entertaining performer in his own right. With the long dark evenings setting in, this is the perfect (one might even say golden!) opportunity to bring some light and laughter into your life!

Sorry to keep carping on, but it's the perfect time to use your Art in the Garden Pass!

We'll soon be calling for submissions for our annual winter exhibition at Penshurst, which opens on Wednesday 14th November. As with last year, we'll reserve part of the hanging space for pictures created as part of our 'Art in the Garden' partnership with Penshurst Place. With these lovely sunny autumn days we're having, it's the ideal opportunity to spend some time in the formal gardens at Penshurst drawing or painting.
