Launch Party 18 November 2015
Exhibition ends 24 December 2015
Call for Artists: Annual Winter Exhibition at Penshurst Place
We’re delighted to collaborate with Penshurst Place once again this year to produce a winter art exhibition in the estate’s café, The Porcupine Pantry. Last year, over 20 artists took part, and we were delighted by the number of pictures sold. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to display their paintings, photographs and textile pieces in the warm and festive surroundings of the Pantry.
The reception from the café’s visitors was also hugely positive and many welcomed the opportunity to buy the artwork as original Christmas gifts.
This year’s exhibition will run from Wednesday 18th November until Christmas Eve. An evening event to celebrate the launch is planned, with mulled wine, and carol singing led by members of Crowborough’s Singing for Fun. Penshurst’s gift shop will be open until 8 pm and offers a 10% discount to shoppers, so this is a great opportunity to get ahead with the Christmas shopping as well as enjoying the art on display.
- This year there will be no set theme, so feel free to submit work on any subject.
- Please send jpeg images of the work you would like to enter to Sue by 23rd October, giving approximate dimensions.
- Pictures for final selection must be delivered either to our collection point in Crowborough, or to The Estate Office at Penshurst Place, to arrive by 9th November.
- Final selection will take place on 11th November.
- Please call Sue on 01892 661319 or email for more details
Crowborough Arts Open Studios
Every year we organise an Open Studios and our 2015 event was a great success thanks to all the artists and the dedicated work of Sue Petszaft.
'The feedback from both artists and members of the public who attended has been really gratifying – makes all the effort worthwhile!
So many visitors and so much positivity has made for a wonderful community event and given local artists a chance to showcase their talents. I think it has been a genuine surprise for a lot of people that we have so many artists in our midst and I we’re looking forward to next year which I’m sure will be even bigger and better.'

The response from the artists was full of positive comments and praise...
'This was my first Open Studio event in Crowborough and it was a very enjoyable experience which resulted in meeting many new local people interested in my work. The feedback that we received from everyone as they came round, was that the standard of work was very high, interesting and diverse and that they were surprised at the talent that is right here on their doorstep. It was lovely to hear such positive comments about the event in general as well as our own work and beautiful venue.
I was pleased to make a few sales and have other possible commissions/sales that may come to fruition in the run up to Christmas. So all in all it was a worthwhile event for me personally and I was happy to have taken part.
Sharing a studio does make it a fun experience and gives the public more to see in one place - I think our work complemented each other very well. We also had homemade cakes and biscuits with tea, coffee or soft drinks available which was enjoyed by quite a few people!' Caroline Jones
'Our Studio was buzzing for most of the weekend – lots of lovely visitors who were very complimentary and also spent a little money!’ Sue Petszaft
'I had a steady flow of visitors & managed to sell some of my work, a very enjoyable & rewarding weekend.' Ron May
'We had a fantastic troop of visitors to the Open Studio I shared with Caroline Hobbs, Claire Rutherford and Yolande Beer. It was particularly pleasing that Claire, in her first exhibition, showing her lovely hand-crafted textile and paper work, found so many willing buyers as well as admirers! With well over a hundred visitors to our Open Studio, the weekend was a great success: congratulations to Sue Petszaft for all her hard work in organising the event.' Beverley Johnstone
'I really enjoyed the weekend, it was such a pleasure chatting to people about my work after such a long time, and the positive feedback and interest I had for my work has truly inspired me to go forward and pursue my careers as an artist.' Claire Rutherford
